| SAN ZOILO
The
wedding will take place at San Zoilo. The Saint Zoilo Monastery
is only separated from Carrion de los Condes by the Carrion
River.
It was built over Roman ruins in honor of Saint John the Baptist
in 947 A.D. and in the 11th century it takes the name of San
Zoilo. During many years the monastery belonged to the Cluny
Order and later to the Saint Benit Order.
Among its walls which preserve Roman architectural remains,
we find the 11th century façade in excellent conservation
due to the fact it was covered with plaster during many centuries.
The cloisters are Renaissance and since 1931 are considered
of cultural interest. The construction lasted from 1537 to
1604 and was designed by Juan de Badajoz.
. It is important to emphasize on the arches, moldings and
medallions with sculpted heads of kings and saints. A special
mention also to the sculpture of "Jesus tied to the column".
Inside the Baroque Church built in the late 17th century,
the Renaissance altar-piece of 1647 stand out, originating
in Baquerin de Campos and also the Roman toms where the Infants
and Counts of Carrion were buried during the 11th century.
